3 Healthy Indian Breakfast Recipes for kids

“Breakfast” as the name suggests re-energises one’s system after a long night’s break. And it’s essential to have a wholesome healthy meal for kids to kickstart the day in the right way.

We all have fussy eaters at home, don’t we? Here are a few healthy & nutritious breakfast recipes that can help kids function at optimum capacity throughout the day.

    Multigrain Cheela

  • Heat a sauté pan and add little oil to it.
  • Add chopped vegetables of your kids choice and sauté for some time.
  • Now add salt to taste and mix well. Remove the pan from the flame and let the vegetables cool.
  • Once at room temperature, add grated paneer to the mixture and mix well.
  • Mix wheat flour, gram flour and oats flour in a bowl. Add turmeric powder, Ajwain and salt in the bowl and mix well.
  • Keep adding water to form a thick batter-like consistency.
  • Mix all the ingredients well to prepare a batter. There should not be lumps in the batter.
  • Make sure the consistency of the batter is thick. Once the batter is formed, cover with a lid and keep it aside for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat a pan on medium flame, put 1 teaspoon oil and pour 2 tablespoons of the batter. Spread the batter in a circular motion till a thin layer is formed.
  • Now pour some oil and flip it. Cook the cheela from both sides until it’s nice and crispy.
  • Once cooked, put a spoonful of filling on it and flip one side onto the other to close it.
  • Remove it from the pan once it is crispy and appears light brown in colour.
  • Serve with mint-coriander chutney or tomato chutney.

     Ragi Uttapam

       
  • Combine 2 tbsp semolina and 2 tbsp yoghurt in a bowl and mix.
  • Add a small cup of ragi flour, chopped onion, capsicum, tomatoes, carrot, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and mix well.
  • Add some water, mix well and set aside for 5 minutes.
  • Add curry leaves and salt to the prepared flour mixture and mix well.
  • Heat the tawa and put a few drops of oil on the hot tawa and wipe with a tissue.
  • Pour the prepared flour mixture, spread into a shape of Uttapam and roast till that side turns slightly golden and then flip.
  • Cook the Uttapam till it turns crisp.
  • Serve with homemade chutney.

    Besan Cheela

  • Combine 1 cup besan (gram flour) and some water in a bowl and mix.
  • Add chopped onion, tomatoes, carrot and mix well.
  • Add salt, mix well and set aside for 5 minutes.
  • Heat the tawa and put a few drops of oil on the hot tawa and wipe with a tissue.
  • Pour the prepared mixture, spread into a round shape and roast till that side turns slightly golden and then flip.
  • Cook the besan cheela till it turns crisp.
  • Serve with mint chutney or tomato ketchup.
